SPACES
NASA: LEFT FIELD
Concept, Design, Production
PROJECT: Design and produce a brainstorming room for the mission concept team at NASA Jet Propulsion Lab.
BACKGROUND: The mission concept team at NASA JPL is a group of creative scientists and engineers that propose interesting and challenging missions for the agency to pursue. Our team was assigned to design and produce a space for the team to brainstorm, conceptualize and prototype missions.
RESULT: The space is named "Left Field." It was designed with 40 ft of whiteboard space from floor to ceiling and another wall of a pin board material called tectum. We designed custom tables which could be pushed around the space on ATV tires, symbolic of the beefy tires seen on space rovers. The space included materials for prototyping such as Legos, foam cutters, and popsicle sticks. The team began using the space in conceptualizing upcoming missions.
