COMMUNICATION
BRAILLE POSTERS
Concept, DesignPROJECT: Communicate the relationship and contrast between the words, “object” and “system” using print.
BACKGROUND: This is one of a variety of explorations in using media to communicate concepts in a new way. I began by researching the linguistic relationships among sound, word and meaning. We understand language to be a complex and powerful system of objects that make meaning. To illustrate this in a unique way, I chose to use braille as a system of communication.
RESULT: A pair of posters were designed using braille to communicate “object” and “system.” The first poster featured a single bump as the “object.” The second poster had the lyrics to the song, “What a Wonderful World,” by Louis Armstrong. These lyrics are a system that communicates significant meaning using only bumps.
